Cilla Slack
Cilla is a recent graduate of the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music where she completed a Bachelor of Music Theatre.

While at the Conservatorium Cilla was chosen to perform lead roles in stage productions of Footloose, Copacabana, Three Penny Opera, Little Shop of Horrors and Cinderella. Also whilst studying at the Conservatorium Cilla performed as a soloist in the Mackay Choral Society productions of the Messiah, Gloria and The Gondoliers as well as performing in many concerts with Opera North.

Singing with the Ipswich City Big Band has been Cilla’s first experience as a jazz vocalist but one that has brought her much enjoyment along with a welcome challenge.

Jared began his musical journey into the world as his mother sang and danced her way through the pregnancy in order to give him talent. Sadly she got a clarinet player.

Jared first delved into the world of music in 1996 when he arrived in Australia and started singing, something which he continued with until 2006. In 1998 he started learning the guitar but got bored and found the clarinet. After unsuccessfully trying to get into a jazz band (a no-go for clarinets) he started learning the tenor saxophone in 2002.

In 2003, still not content with 3 instruments Jared found the bassoon and learned the fine art of juggling as he couldn't hire a personal instrument carrier. However, the musical search still continued, with bass clarinet and baritone saxophone being dragged into the mix. By this time his siblings were the musical drag-along team.

Jared has toured New Zealand, Western Australia, North Queensland, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur with his music. He has won music awards from his school including most outstanding bassoon - 2005, 2006, most outstanding clarinet - 2006, most outstanding male vocalist - 2004, most improved saxophone - 2004, and a performing arts excellence award in dance, drama and music 2005.

Jared is currently studying at the Queensland Conservatourim Griffith University.

Annette has been playing an instrument since primary school - ranging from bass drum in the recorder band at Brassall S.S. to flute, clarinet, baritone saxophone and tenor saxophone at Ipswich S.H.S. in the concert and stage bands.

She continued with her music in the Port Stephens community Band (in Newcastle) when her husband was posted there whilst in the Air Force.  While with this band, she toured for two weeks in New Zealand and dabbled in the trombone for a time too!

Annette enjoys playing tenor sax for its mellow sound and the fact that it sounds good no matter what style of music you play.

Annette is married with two children - her son learns the trumpet and her daughter is just starting the flute.

John is the grandfather of the band, having first played in dance bands in Northern Victoria in the early sixties, beginning on piano in four to eight piece bands, then alto sax in a big band in the mid sixties. John played organ from the early seventies, then moved to Northern NSW in 1980 and continued playing in small groups.

After opening a teaching studio in northern NSW in 1986, John later moved to Karana Downs in 2001 where he continues teaching keyboards and woodwinds from his studio.

John joined the Ipswich City Big Band late in 2006, first on alto sax and then switched to baritone sax early in 2007.

Ryan Weymouth is a trumpet player from Brisbane. Ryan started playing in primary school and continued his trumpet and musical education through to university where he obtained a Bachelor of Music degree in performance from the University of Queensland.

Ryan has travelled throughout the UK, USA and Europe and has performed with a variety of musical groups including combos, big bands, orchestras, gypsy folk groups, brass bands, and for musicals.

Musical Influences: Maynard Ferguson, Arturo Sandoval, Wynton Marsalis and the excellent Tower of Power horn section.

Brad played french horn and keyboards at school and later played in the Sunshine Coast community concert band. He has now been playing trombone for about 4 years.

Instrument Specifics: Conn trombone
Musical Tastes: Swing and neoswing music
Favourite Trombone Player:  Jack Teagarden

Enjoys: Spending time with his beautiful partner Jo and their two daughters Georgie and Ayla, and playing Polocrosse.

Pamela Humphreys plays keyboards with the Ipswich City Big Band.  She can't remember a time when she wasn't involved in music in some form or other and played guitar, piano and cello while at school and university in the UK.

She met David in 1986 (who became her husband in 1991) and was introduced to jazz and big band music. She began playing in a big band in Singapore in 2001 and was keen to join a similar ensemble when she arrived in Australia. She has been playing in the Ipswich City Big Band since September 2006.

Pamela has travelled to over thirty countries and has a passion for travel but now plans to stay here in Australia where she and David recently became citizens. She is currently a manager of a department in the English Language Institute of Griffith University.
